Question:
Saw this item recommended on the Pop Up Portal. Question: when this is locked on, does it mean that theres no way that the coupler could detach when correctly hooked up? Or is it mainly for theft? Thanks

The BOLT Trailer Coupler Lock # BL7032495 is theft deterrent. I can't say there are any lock systems out there that will 100% not come off. It really comes down to how good the thief is and how hard he is willing to work for it. The benefit to this system is it does fit a universal application for trailers and it will one time code to your specific Toyota Key.
I recommend the Master Lock Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock and Coupler Lock Set # 3794DAT. It is a lock system that you can used when storing your trailer or while using it. It is all keyed alike with a one key system making it easily used with multiple vehicles and trailers. And when stored you can use both the coupler lock with the storage lock so you have 2 systems that the thief would need to break through.
To cover part of your question about there being no way the coupler could detach when correctly hooked up. Couplers are capable of failing on a ball connection. That is why trailers are mandated to have safety chains when using a ball connection.
