Flat Towing a 2014 Jeep Wrangler With Bumper Tabs Behind Class C Motorhome

Question:

I need some assistance is ing a budget friendly tow bar setup. I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler unlimited that I want to tow behind a Class C RV. It has a modified bumber with D rings that are 1” thick steel with a 3/4” diameter hole. Can you put together a package of everything I need with a tow bar, wiring, brake assist, etc?

The first thing is to ensure that the bumper you have on your 2014 Jeep Wrangler is rated for towing. Not all are so contact the bumper manufacturer and ensure that you are safe to flat tow by the bumper tabs.

The tab mounts available show they fit a 7/8" or 1" diameter hole so double check your measurement as well before ordering. These Bar Adapeters # RM-035-1 will replace the ends on the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar # RM-522. These bars are designed for simple connection and removal by having a non-binding design. You will need the Combo Towing Kit # RM-9243-1. This will include the wiring to connect your Jeep taillights. It also includes the cables, locks and storage bags to keep everything protected.

Your Jeep will require the battery is disconnected during tow. I recommend using a Battery Disconnect # RM-766. This will allow you to just flip a switch rather than removing a battery terminal. It will also allow you to use a Battery Charge Line # RM-156-25. You will require this as your braking system will require power from battery. The charge line will ensure that your battery doesn't become drained while towing.

The Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 is a great braking system. It is designed to mount under your hood and ties into your vacuum brakes to give full braking capability. Best of all when you are ready to tow you just flip the switch and your ready.

Lastly you may or may not require a adapter to move the bars higher lower on your motorhome. The tow bars are designed to only have a 3" difference from motorhome to vehicle to ensure proper use. The Adapter # RM-048-4 will give you a 4" lift or drop if you require this. If you require something different, please let me know. I also recommend using the Quiet Hitch # RM-061 to remove the slop that the bars and receiver have. This will also help remove the excess noise that you may get when towing as well.
