Thule Passage Bike Rack Fit for a 2013 Ford Escape 2013 Honda CR-V and 2013 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I am planning to buy a new 2013 SUV in the next 2 weeks. I do not want to use a hitch type of rack. Can the following use a TH910XT type of strap rack for these 3 SUVs: 2013 Ford Escape: this is a reedesigned Escape for 2013. from the etrailer website it looks like the Escape does take the TH910XT, correct? 2013 Honda CRV: looks like only a hitch or roof rack, correct? 2013 Toyota Rav4: a newly redesigned model for 2013, the rear tire hanging off the rear is now gone for 2013, can this take a TH910XT type of strap rack?

Of the 3 SUVs that you referenced, the Thule Passage 2 Bike Rack, # TH910XT, will fit the 2013 Ford Escape and the 2013 Toyota RAV4. Trunk mounted bike racks are not recommended for the 2013 Honda CR-V because the bike rack cannot be mounted in a location that is safe for the bike rack or the vehicle.

Thule does state that this bike rack will fit the 2013 Toyota RAV4, however, they also say that they do not recommend trunk mounted bike racks for models that have a plastic spoiler at the top of the rear hatch. The spoiler could become deformed or damaged under the weight of the bike rack and bikes. I did some research on your vehicles and found that this spoiler is present on most models of the 2013 RAV4.

This is important to keep in mind when you are vehicle shopping. If you choose a RAV4 that has the plastic spoiler at the top of the rear hatch, then a trunk mounted bike rack like the Passage 2 is not recommended. Your other options at that point would be a hitch or roof mounted bike carrier.
