How to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2009 Toyota Camry LE With an 1-1/4" Hitch

Question:

Hi, I have a 2009 Camry LE. I am looking for a hitch and hitch rack for 4 bikes. Is this possible? I'm finding racks for 2 hitches, and only 1 1/4 hitches for the Camry. If not, do you have other suggestions? Thank you!

While the newer Camrys have special 2" hitches designed for them, the selection of hitches for your 2009 Toyota have only 1-1/4" hitches like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12343. The good news is that these are Class II hitches which gives you more options and weight capacity compared to most Class I hitches. Class I hitches can not carry more than 2 bikes, while Class II hitches can carry 4 bikes if you can get them to fit.

You have two options from here. You can get a hitch expander like # 80303 that expands and extends your 1-1/4" hitch into a 2" hitch. This does reduce your total tongue weight capacity from 350 lbs down to 175 lbs so keep that in mind. For that reason, I recommend our lighter of the 4-bike bike racks which is the Hollywood Racks Destination 4 # HR4000 which only weighs 42 pounds!

If you don't want an adapter, you can get a hanging style bike rack that can fit into an 1-1/4" hitch. One good example is the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR. This fits 2" and 1-1/4" hitches like yours and can carry around 4 bikes by their frame.
