Does the Curt Hitch Interfere with the Hands Free Liftgate Feature of the 2021 Toyota Sienna

Question:

Hello I am just about to purchase a new 2021 Toyota Sienna Platinum and I am trying to confirm that it can be fit with a 2 inch hitch. My understanding is that the kick to open feature must be disabled to put on a hitch which I am fine with. Anyway I am concerned about not getting the right information from the dealer, so wanted to get your take. I will be using the hitch for bike racks, likely the Kuat platform. Please advise.

We do have a hitch available for your 2021 Toyota Sienna.

It's the Curt Class III, part # C22UR. This 2" hitch has a maximum tongue weight of 350 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 3500 pounds. These numbers rise to 500 and 5000 respectively when combined with a weight distribution system.

As for interfering with the kick open (Hands Free Liftgate), Curt has not noted this as a problem, and we have not had the chance to test this. However, since Curt designed this hitch specifically for the 2021 Sienna, it stands to reason that interference of any kind would have been noted. In other words, I cannot say for sure, but it more than likely will not interfere. Usually with these hitches, you just have to kick on either side of the receiver to activate that function.

For your platform rack, the Kuat Sherpa 2.0, part # SH22G, is an excellent choice for 2 bikes up to 40 pounds each. I've linked to a video review of this rack for you to review.
