Recommended 6 Pole Round to 7 Way Adapter and Brake Controller for 1997 Chevy K2500 Suburban
Question:
Hello, I have a 97 K2500 4wd suburban with a 6 blade trailer connector. I would like to convert it to 7 blade and install a brake controller so I can tow my travel trailer. What parts do I need?

Since your vehicle's 6 way round already has a brake controller line run the external wiring will be in place- so I recommend using the Adapter 6-Pole to 7-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 47435 to give you an adapter to plug in your trailer's 7 way.
For a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160, which will give you proportional braking for your trailer. This controller will need to be hard wired into your 1997 K2500 Suburban, but offers automatic leveling so it can be positioned anywhere from flat to 90 degrees vertical, so you can fit it most anywhere under your dash.
You may need to run wires into the vehicle's cab, through the engine compartment firewall if they aren't already present but I've added an installation video of this controller being hard wired in that you can use as a rough guide for install. You may also need a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to test some of your existing wiring. You can also pick up some 12 gauge wire # 12-1-1 (available by the foot) and Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 if you need them to help make installation a bit cleaner.
