Diagnosing Malfunctioning Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller on 2003 GMC Sierra
Question:
I have a 2003 GMC Sierra. I installed the Teconsha Voyager brake controller with the proper adapter # 3015.. There was no switched 12volt power to the controller. I checked the pinouts on the firewall relay panel where the # 3015 adapter is connected and the 12 volt switched source is not on pin B of the pigtail plug. The 12volt switched source is on pin # E of the relay panel. I switched the controller power wire from Pin B to pin E to see if I could get power to the controller.. This was successful but the controller does not light up when the trailer brakes are connected and when you slide the manual control the unit buzzes loudly and there is no light on the controller.. All fuzes are good.. Could the vehicle relay panel be connected pinned incorrectly.... Im good at this stuff but Im up against a wall here with a trailer I cant tow safely...

It is pretty unlikely that the factory connection point under the dash where the controller plugs in has been pinned incorrectly.
I would begin by checking under the hood to ensure that the final brake controller connections were made at the power distribution box on the inside of the drivers side fender. Depending on how the vehicle was equipped, in may cases this connection was not made on the assembly line. As you can see in the provided photo, look for a red wire with a ring terminal on the end of it. This terminal will need to be slipped over the post on the distribution box as shown in the photo.
My thinking is that the power feed to the controller was not completed under the hood. When you repinned the connector, you might have switched the output circuit. You will not get the green LED unless the brake controller reads the trailer.
Is the 7-way on your Sierra factory installed, or did you install it? On trucks without the factory installed 7-way, output circuit will not be complete, thus preventing the controller from reading the trailer. The blue wire shown in the photo is the output feed from the brake controller. As you can see in the photo, this feed ends in a small connector. This connector will need to be cut off, and the wire connected to a length of 10 gauge wire long enough to reach the trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle, where the wire would attach to the # 2 terminal on the 7-way.
Also, check to make sure the controller is pointed parallel to the direction of travel and is leveled according to the installation instructions. Not having the controller properly leveled can in some cases cause the problem you mention.
Please check if the power feed for the controller was connected at the factory, as well as how the controller is leveled and let me know what you find.
