Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
Question:
Hello, Can I flat tow my 2002 Sport Trac with Automatic Transmission, that has three drive positions: 2wd, 4x4 High, and 4x4 Low behind my motorhome? I know your website list a couple of different types of tow plates. I would appreciate your response.

I took a look at the online owner's manual for a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, and it what it said was that only rear-wheel drive options can be flat towed, and if going over 35 mph and/or 50 miles in distance, to do this you must disconnect the driveshaft. Having said that, I highly recommend checking with Ford to see if anything has changed since the owner's manual was released to verify any type of compatibility as they would be the ones with the final say.
If you do find that your 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac can be flat towed, and you get the drive shaft disconnected, the parts you will need in order to do this are the following:
- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 474-1
- Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520
- Safety Chains: Roadmaster 80" Coiled Safety Cables # RM-653
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154
- Supplemental Braking System: Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Supplemental Braking System # RM-9400
Along with these parts, you may also need a high-low adapter such as # RM-070 in order to keep your tow bar level, and I've added a link to a help article which shows you how to determine if you need an adapter, as well as a link to our selection of adapters.
Additionally, I have added links below to instruction manuals and video reviews for you to take a look at.
