How To Install 12 Volt Power Outlet In Truck Bed

Question:

I’m looking for something like https://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Draw-Tite/118019.html that will work with my 2020 Ford Superduty to power a cooler in the bed when not towing my trailer. From what I have read on the product QandA, and have measured with a meter, the connector does not have power on the 1:00 position pin when no trailer is connected. I’ve read that Ford only powers that pin when it senses a connection to the pin for powering the brakes. I have measured that the pin in the 11:00 position running lights has power, and wonder if you have an adapter that uses that pin instead? If not, that would seem an excellent option to have for the newer Ford owners. My alternative, instead of running a wire from the batter to the connector, is to build my own adapter using a connector like Item # A7WCB and connecting the 11:00 pin to a plug like Item # RM-9332. Do you have any better alternatives?

The best option I have to install a 12 volt power outlet in a truck bed would be to use the Hopkins 12-Volt Power Socket with Power Wire and Fuse Assembly part # HM55115 and wire this directly to the battery. This would need to be wired directly to the battery as it will provide the outlet with constant power.

I am not aware of any adapter that would pull power for the other circuits which likely aren't rated high enough for what you need anyway.
