How to Determine Correct Trailer Idler Hub to Convert to 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern
Question:
I have 2 trailer axles and wheels similar to a mobile home 14.5 wheels and would like to convert to 5x4.5 wheels. Both setups are idler only no brakes. What part will I need?

We can help you out with this, and in order to use wheels with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern you will need a hub with that bolt pattern, but there's a number of things you will need to know in order to determine what hub you need. First, you need to know the weight rating of your axle, and also what bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them.
If you are unable to find them, you need to use digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.
For example, if you had inner bearing L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) and outer bearing L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) you would need the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 # AKIHUB-545-35-K.
I have added a link to our entire selection of idler hubs with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern for you to check out once you find out your bearings or the measurements where the bearings ride.
