Brake Controller for 2012 Chevy Suburban With Factory 7-Way

Question:

I have a 2012 Chevy suburban 1500. I would like to use it to tow a dump trailer with electric brakes however I have no controller. I’m not sure what all I need. I do have a 7 pin plug harness already from the factory. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have good news because since your 2012 Chevy Suburban already has the factory 7-way, you won't need anything but the brake controller and wiring harness which you will splice into the wires which are already run under the dash. If you take a look at the accompanying photo, you can see where the wires are on your Suburban.

As for the brake controller for your Suburban, I highly recommend the Brake EVN # TK63VR .

I love the I-Command because it is a great value due to its unique combination of quality and cost-effectiveness. The I-Command is going to give you smooth braking, is easy to use, and has a bright display that is simple to read and understand. For a combination of quality, reliability, and price, there really isn't a better option than the I-Command. To install the I-Command in your Suburban with the factory 7-way will need the Brake Control Harness # 20127.

I have added a link below to a video which shows the Prodigy P2 # 90885 being installed on a similar model year Chevy Suburban which you can use as a guide to install the I-Command.

To connect the wires on the Suburban to the Brake Control Harness # 20127, the only other thing you will need are Butt Connectors # 05731-5 and # DW05745-5.
