Replacing Slipper Springs with Double-Eye Springs

Question:

I currently have flat end slipper springs on my single axle trailer that I believe are too long. Free length is at 26 inches. Trailer measurements are 23 3/4 from center of eye to the front of slipper shackle and 25 1/4 to end of slipper shackle. Current springs are rated for 1200lb single and 2400 overall. Can I use radius end instead of flat end without issue?

If you are looking to replace your flat-end style slipper springs with a radius-type, you can use the same hangers you have only if they will accept the same size bolt as the radius-type springs. Otherwise you will need to get a new set of hangers and install them in place of the old ones. Also, you will want to replace the bolt as it is likely worn from the slipper spring.

If you have a 2,000 lbs axle, you can use the 4-Leaf Slipper Spring with Radius End # SP-179275. This has an eye diameter with bushing of 9/16", so if your current slipper springs use the same size bolt, you can use your existing hangers. Otherwise you will need to replace you hangers with a new hanger kit such as # APS3.
