Question:

I am looking to tow my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee with my class A motor home. What system do you recommend? Base plate, tow arms, braking. We will be towing with a 2017 ACE Thor 27.9 will need skirt for rear. Any help and education would be appreciated.

I do recommend consulting your vehicle's owners manual to confirm that the specific features on your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee allow for flat towing; I have seen some notes that certain trim packages and transfer cases do not allow the vehicle to be flat towed without damaging it. With that said, we can help you find all of the parts you need to flat tow your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee; a complete flat towing setup consists of base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring, supplemental braking and in most cases a high/low adapter.

For base plates, I recommend the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit # RM-521440-5 which are a confirmed fit on your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. These base plates have removeable arms that provides a clean look when you aren't towing and the black powder coat finish will help protect against rust.

From here, you will need a tow bar that is compatible with Roadmaster base plates, so I recommend using the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain # RM-676. This is a non-binding tow bar that can be easily released at any time (even on unlevel ground) and features extra-long telescoping arms that provide better maneuverability on the road. It also has integrated LED lights that illuminate with the RV's tail lights for better visibility at night and comes with Safety cables integrated so they won't need to be purchased separately. You may also want to add the Roadmaster Tow Bar Cover # RM-055-3, which will help keep the tow bar and wiring free to from grime and dirt; this is an especially great addition if you're going to be towing regularly over long distances or in weather.

For a shield that can be used at the back of your RV to protect from rocks and other road debris, the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening # RM-4750 is compatible with the Nighthawk towbar and is also a great addition to your towing setup.

For tow bar wiring I recommend using the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152. This diode kit lets you use the Jeep's tail lights and wiring system, and the diodes will prevent any feedback from the RV that might damage your vehicle's electronics.

For supplemental braking, which is required in most states and provinces, I recommend using the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251. This is permanently installed system so there's minimal setup required when you want to start towing, and it provides proportional braking in relation to the brake pressure applied in your coach. This will help prolong the life of the brakes on your towed vehicle and ultimately make for a better towing experience. To make this system work, you'll also need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch # RM-751449 and we also recommend using the Roadmaster Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to help keep the battery charged during towing. If your RV does not have a 12v charge line present, you'll also need the # RM-156-75 for the RV side charge line

You may also require a high/low adapter in order to keep the tow bar level (within 3" up or down). I've linked a helpful article that you can use that explains how to measure correctly to find the correct adapter (if needed), as well as our entire selection of adapters that can be used if you do need one. There are also some installation and product review videos linked as well, that you might find helpful.
