How To Prevent Sagging On My 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 When Pulling 27ft Camper With 800lb Tongue Weight

Question:

Thank you for the great info. I failed to add that the Easy Lift chain adjustment weight equalizer also has an anti-sway bar on the camper tongue. I can back up some, but no sharp turns without major binding, even with camper sway bar disconnected. The Easy Lift has round clip in bars that flatten out the further back they go, with the chains. Isnt my current set-up satisfactory? So if I put the Sumohelper springs, even with 300+ lbs of firewood/camping gear, the sag should be minimal and still have a decent ride with and without the trailer or weight in the bed? Thanks again!

If you currently have a weight distribution and sway bar on your camper then you would be good to go there. As far as adding the sumo springs, in my opinion if you are adding all the extra weight in the bed of the truck also, they may help a little but I don't think you would be satisfied. They will not effect your ride much when not loaded but adding that much weight the vehicle is still going to sag and the ride quality when towing is not going to be what you are looking for. If the vehicle does bottom out from the weight, even with the sumo springs, it is still going to hit hard. It would be similar to your factory jounce bumper hitting the strike plate accept the sumo spring is going to make contact with the strike plate faster because the gap is smaller between the bottom of the sumo spring and the strike plate.

To get the best ride quality when towing and not towing while still being able to support the weight I recommend going with the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle Item # F2299. These have a 5000lb load leveling capacity which is more than enough to support the added weight in the bed of your truck plus the tongue weight of the trailer. I have installed both the sumo springs and air bags and air bags are the way to go with your set up. I think you would but much happier with the towing experience.

I have included a video to help with the instillation. It is on a 2006 however, the instillation is the same.
