Recommended Replacement Trailer Hitch for a 2004 Jayco Greyhawk

Question:

Hello E-Trailer team! We own a 2004 Jayco Greyhawk Class-C motorhome. The manuals hint that the tow hitch is rated at 3,000#. However weve done some further digging, and some users on web forums, as well as our RV handyman, feel the tow hitch isnt rated to be used for much more than a storage rack. They felt this was based on the lower quality of the welds, and the fact that the hitch itself didnt look that sturdy. Aside from the tow hitch, the motorhome itself is capable of towing around 5,000# based on the numbers in the manual and the stickers in the doors. So now Im just looking for the final piece, being a worthwhile tow hitch. The QandA in this link https://www.etrailer.com/question-352817.html lead me to believe the 41990-07 https://www.etrailer.com/p-41990-07.html is suitable for our needs. Im writing to confirm this prior to making the purchase. According to the suggestions in the QA: - Ive measured the outside-to-outside distance of the frame. Its just under 42in. Photo attached. - Ive measured the distance from the top of the frame to the bottom of the bumper. Its just under 5in. Photo attached. As such, it seems the 41990-07 is the correct one. And any concern that this will require a welder to first remove the welds of the existing hitch from the tan bumper? Thank you!

The Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 41990-07 should be an excellent option for a 2004 Jayco Greyhawk based on the provided measurements. It is a universal hitch rated up to 16,000 lbs which will far exceed most motorhome's towing capacity. In regards to installation, it can be attached to pretty much any frame so long as the width from outside to outside is no more than 44" which you appear to be under so you will be good to go. The brackets would then allow for most receiver tubes to come out just below the bumper.

In regards to removal of an existing hitch, a welder would not be required as all you'd need to do is take a grinder wheel and remove the welds till the hitch comes free.
