Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel

Question:

Hi Jameson, this is Dave Cyr, again. Thank you very much for your help. I have another question. I went thru all the info for the battery auto disconnect switch. Under NOTES it states that the switch is not to be used with diesel engines. Something about high compression at start up blowing a solenoid. Is my Silverado with the 3.0 diesel an exception to this rule? If my diesel is not an exception then I guess Id have to manually disconnect the battery and maybe install an RM-156-25 battery charger. Please advise. Again, thanks for your help

I checked with Blue Ox and the # BLU54VR that you referenced does not have fit exclusions for the diesel engine versions of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 so it would work great for your truck. The Avail Tow Bar part # BX7420 would be a great solution as well.

The battery of your truck does need to be disconnected when flat towing it which is why the Roadmaster quick disconnect kit part # RM-766 is recommended as it makes this easier. Your current braking system would work great. For lighting though the part # RM-152-98146-7 would be a great option as well.

The Roadmaster battery disconnect part # RM-766 actually comes with a battery charge line to keep the battery topped off when towing. Since supplemental braking systems draw power from the towed vehicle a charge line for the battery is a great choice so that when you get to your destination your vehicle's battery isn't dead.
