Weight Distribution and Towing Capacity of 2013 Toyota Tacoma GRN245L-CRADKA With Tow Package

Question:

I just bought a 2013 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with the towing package. In an earlier post, I saw that the difference between GRN25OL-PRADKA and GRN245L-PRADKA models was 6500 lbs and 11,000+ lbs, respectively. My model is 245L-CRADKA. I cant seem to find any specific information about my towing capacity. We want to buy a camper, which is why this is important. FWIW, the previous owner put bilstein shocks and old man springs on it to level it. Also, I think I will need anti sway bars, any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

According to the owner's manual I looked up on the Toyota website, your 2013 Toyota Tacoma model GRN245L-CRADKA with the tow package has a 6,500 lb towing capacity, though I strongly recommend verifying this with Toyota or in your copy of the manual.

Weight distribution with anti-sway is strongly recommended, and will depend on the capacity of your trailer. In order to choose the best weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Tundra.

The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the etrailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044.

If you plan on towing up to or near your capacity though I highly recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800.

This is for total tongue weights between 400 lbs and 800 lbs which you are very likely to be in the midst of. This is a fantastic system because it offers you high levels of sway control at a much better price than other brands. What the Fastway system does is give you a great value. It comes with everything you need but the hitch ball, which will depend on your trailer's coupler and be either 2" Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6080 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6100.

I have added a link to a help article on weight distribution as well as a video review for you to check out of the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800.
