Recommended Swing Arm for the Carpod Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
Question:
I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. I need access to open the back to let my very large dog out when travel. Is there a swing arm or hitch adapter I can use with the Carpod to swing it out of the way?

Yes, we do have something you can use. You can use the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483 with the 23x47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - Folding - 450 lbs # M2200. However it should be noted that any time you use a hitch extender, or any type of adapter, that the tongue weight of your hitch will reduced by 50%. From what I was able to find, the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a maximum tongue weight of 720-lbs, but the hitch on your vehicle might be rated for less. You will want to consult your owners manual and the rating sticker on the hitch to determine the true capacity and what you would be limited to when using the BackSwing.
The Carpod only weighs about 55-lbs, so even if the tongue weight capacity is as low as 500-lbs normally, you'd still have roughly 200-lbs of cargo carrying capacity using the BackSwing. Taking all of this into consideration, it should work well for you to accomplish what you're hoping.
I've linked a short video on the BackSwing to this answer, as well.
