Can a Fixed 5th Wheel Hitch be Used on a Short Bed 2010 Ford F-150
Question:
I have a Reese fifth wheel 30047. Can I use it on my f150 2010 short bed?

Expert Reply:
On a short bed truck (6-1/2 feet) you would need to use a slider hitch. Bascially, you can put the head from the Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch, # RP30047, on a square slider, # RP30048. But you would remove the legs for that. The legs cannot be fitted to the slider, just the head of the hitch.
The same head, # RP58146, and cross member, # RP58147, are used on both the stationary 5th wheel RP30047 and the slider version, # RP30051.
For an installation kit you can use # RP50081-58.
If you have the very short bed, 5-1/2 feet, then you would need to use the fixed hitch # RP30047, and a Sidewinder. You would also need to take some measurements, see Sidewinder link, to determine if there will be enough clearance. Then you would need to determine if the make and model of the pin box on the trailer is compatible with a Sidewinder. There is a compatibility matrix in the Sidewinder FAQ I linked. For the 5-1/2 foot bed use installation kit # RP30080.
