Why is the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack Recommended To Be Removed When Not Used?

why is it recommended to remove when not in use? i live in boston area and thought Id put on in spring and take off in fall...kayaking reasons. toyota camry 2013 4 dr sedan thank you for your time
