Safety-Chain Retainer and Chains/Cables for 14' Utility Trailer with 3,500 lb Tandem Axles

Question:

I am looking to attach safety chains to a trailer. The trailer is a 14foot tandem axle utility trailer with 3500 lbs. axles. I am looking at these safety chain retainers. What I dont understand is the 5/16 measurement. All of your safety chains seem to be no more than 1/4inch thickness. Can you explain and make a recommendation? I want to go with 30inch chains and cut them down if needed. Also, I prefer simple S-hooks if possible. Thanks

There are a handful of different retainer styles out there to match different thicknesses of chains and cables that we have to offer. So the Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer # 3375471000 would be geared towards a 5/16" diameter (or 1/4") chain/cable while the Buyers Products Weld-On Safety Chain Retainer # 3375471001 would be geared towards a slightly larger 3/8" diameter chain/cable.

For your application I recommend going with the part # 3375471001 and pairing it with the Curt Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables with S-Hooks # C80176 because they are rated for up to 7,500 lbs and even though they are 42" long, they are coiled so they won't be dragging on the ground.

Attached are some review videos for you to check out.
