Can 2018 Audi Q7 Safely Tow a 7,700 lb Lance 2285 Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2018 Audi Q7 with a max towing capacity of 7700 lbs and a max tongue weight of 770 lbs. I am looking to buy a travel trailer and I want to make sure I am good with weights. I am looking at the Lance 2285. It has a GVWR of 7000 lbs and a dry weight with the options I have chosen of 5500 lbs. I am concerned that I am getting close to my max tongue weight of 770 lbs with 10 of the GVWR being 700 lbs. On top of that, the Audi manual says I cannot use a weight distribution hitch. Have you set up an Audi Q7 with this size of a travel trailer before? Would you say I am too close to my max weight or am I good with weights? If so, do you still recommend a weight distribution hitch even though Audi says not to use one? And finally, which weight distribution hitch would you recommend?

From a numbers standpoint it looks like you'll be able to tow your Lance 2285 Travel Trailer with your 2018 Audi Q7. I can help with supplemental things and information to make this a better towing experience but you'll also want to refer to your owner's manual regarding weight in general for your Audi Q7.
For tongue weight the good thing is that you'll be able to adjust this to fit your application. I recommend using a scale like the etrailer # e99044 to ensure you get it right every time, but the 70 lb difference between the max tongue weight rating of your vehicle and the 10% rule for your trailer should suffice.
If your Audi owner's manual states not to use weight distribution then I can't really recommend going against it, but I do have a way you can still maintain some control over your heavy trailer and that's with the Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control # 335TSC-1000. This installs on the trailer and helps activate the brakes to keep the trailer from swaying during travel. It won't help with leveling your towing system but it does give some control.
Typically I recommend using a truck for heavier trailers but if you are careful about loading your trailer and practice good driving habits you'll be able to safely transport this trailer with your Audi Q7.
