Troubleshooting Front of 2009-2014 SkyBox 21 Lid Being Loose

Question:

I have had my skybox 21 for almost 6 years now. I love it and I’ve taken on several cross country trips. I have one issue on it that I probably should’ve had resolved years ago with you all that needs attention I’ve had it mounted on a 2004 Jeep grand Cherokee Overland and under almost every circumstance is it performed flawlessly but Sometimes at high speeds on the interstate the front lid somehow manages to open up a couple inches wreaking havoc on everything inside occasionally actually blowing things out of the carrier itself. After the first couple times this happened I have strapped down the front with very heavy gauge bungee cords and I’ve not had a problem with it since, But I know this is not right. Please help me resolve this issue. Regards,

The first thing that comes to mind is that maybe your front support arm is a little loose or worn. I reached out to my contact at Yakima who said that sometimes they can warp or get twisted which could then result in the lid being a little loose. If you check that out and your front support does look like it needs replacing then you can do so with part # 8880684.

The only other thing my contact at Yakima said she knows could be the problem is if some of the latches might not be secured fully. She mentioned pressing down on your lid when you secure those to make sure they are completely secured.
