Availability of Brake Controller Adapter for 1997 Chevy Silverado
Question:
I am looking for a control adapter. My truck is a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado. I cant seem to find an adapter on your site any earlier than 1999. Will this one work on a 97 model?

GM did not start equipping their trucks with the under-dash brake controller connector until the 1999 model year. That being said, you can still wire your pickup for a brake controller.
If your pickup has no trailer connector at the rear bumper, you can get a T-one wiring harness, part 118315. That will give you the 4-pole plug. You will also need the ETBC7, which is a kit that gives you 7-pole plug and has wiring which is run to the front of your vehicle for the brake controller.
We have an excellent selection of brake controllers, if you do not already have one. I recommend either the Prodigy P2, part # 90885 (which is a snap to install and use), or the P3 # 90195 (which is just as easy), but has a more intuitive and user-friendly display.
For complete installation details, I have linked you to some FAQ articles and an install video that you might find helpful. The video shows the kit being installed on a 1992 Suburban, but the procedure on your vehicle would be identical.
