2018 Silverado 1500 LT Hitch Class Weight Distribution

Question:

Hello, I have a 2018 Silverado 1500 LT double cab with a 3.42 gear ratio and a standard towing package I believe its a Class 3 hitch: Max Trailer weight = 9,400 lbs GCWR = 15,000 lbs Combined Occupant/Cargo = 1729 lbs GVWR = 7,000 lbs GAWR FRT = 3850 lbs GAWR RR = 3950 lbs Im looking at towing a 22ft trailer with a weight distribution hitch: Gross weight - 7,740.0 lbs tongue weight ~ 1000lbs Dry weight - 5,558.0 lbs Cargo weight - 2,182.0 lbs Do I need a Class IV hitch to replace my factory Class 3? THANK YOU!

The current hitch you have on your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 has the towing capacity needed for the trailer you are planning on towing so there would be no need to upgrade it. For a weight distribution system the Reese Strait Line part # RP66084 would be your best option. It has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs and also features the best sway control that works to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
