Troubleshooting Trailer Connector Not Functioning Properly
Question:
My trailer connector is not working properly. Harness is properly plugged in and properly wired. Sometimes it works well, but most of the time, it doesnt. Either the left or the right turn fail to light. It happens with both connectors, the 7 and the 4. I also lubricated the connections to no avail. Can you please help me? Thank you and have a good weekend.

The first thing to do is figure out if the problem is on your tow vehicle or your trailer. To test this you'll simply need to use a circuit tester # PTW2992 and check the various pin locations for function. For a connector that has both a 4-Way and 7-Way, like the # ETBC7, it would be best to check both connectors so you know if it's that circuit or just that connector. I've attached some photos to show what functions those connectors should carry.
If all of your tow vehicle connectors have the proper functions then the problem is on the trailer side. Either way the solution is the same; check your connections to make sure they are secure and clean, check the wiring to make sure it isn't damaged, and check all of your grounds to make sure they are securely connected to a clean, bare-metal surface.
