Question:

have a 2003 Crownline with tandem axle trailer with surge brakes. Will this setup work for my needs. what else is needed. pulling with a 1997 GMC 1/2 ton extended cab with 4wd. main concern is to be able to back down a steep boat ramp and use the brakes to prevent the truck being pulled down the ramp thanks

So long as your 2003 Crownline currently has hydraulic disc brakes, you can absolutely add the HydraStar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HS481-8067.

It will do a great job of giving you the stopping power needed so your boat doesn't get pulled down the ramp, and since you have surge brakes and brake lines already, there's only a couple of other things you'll need, starting with a breakaway kit, the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger # 20400.

You will also need a brake controller that is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes if you do not have one. For your 1997 GMC to do that you'd need a couple parts, starting with a 4-way (if you do not have one), the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118315, and then a 7-way with the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7.
