What is the Difference Between the Draw-Tite 76253 and Curt C25VR for 2020 Subaru Ascent

Question:

I’m looking at the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2inch - 76253 and the C25VR Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2inch hitch options to be installed discreetly on a 2020 Subaru Ascent. Besides the price nearly double is there any significant difference between the two products? They both seem to follow the same install guidelines and capacities.

There are some slight differences between the Draw-Tite # 76253 and the Curt # C25VR, but it's mostly down to the quality of the powder coat on the two hitches. The powder coating on the Curt hitches is traditionally applied a bit thicker and is a better quality, in my opinion. This is going to translate to less dings and scratches and generally means that the hitch is going to be less susceptible to corrosion over the long term, so I do recommend going with the Curt # C25VR hitch for your 2020 Subaru Ascent.

Other than the powder coating, the hitches will install the same and offer the same features and capacities (which are ultimately limited to that of your tow vehicle-consult your vehicle owner's manual for the true towing capacity) so I would always go with the one that will stand up best to the rigors of towing.

If you're going to be towing with your new hitch, you'll also need a wiring harness, ball mount and hitch ball to complete your towing package. For wiring I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One # 118790 which will tee into your vehicle's wiring system and provide you with a 4 way connector to power trailer lights. To round out your towing setup I recommend using the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 since it comes with 2 ball mounts with varying rise/drop, 2 hitch balls (1-7/8" and 2"), a hitch pin, clip and carrying bag for storage. These components will allow you to tow a variety of different trailers you might encounter.

I've linked a few installation videos that you can use to follow along with when you go to install your new hitch and wiring, as well.
