Parts Needed to Change Hydraulic Brakes to Electric Brakes on Trailer
Question:
I have a 20 runabout on a TrailerRight trailer with hydrolic surge brakes. Id like to convert to electric brakes. Is this possible? What do I need to make this happen? My truck has a electronic brake controller. Thanks.

You definitely can convert from using hydraulic brakes to electric brakes on your trailer. You'll need to lock out your surge brake actuator and then basically replace your hydraulic brake lines with 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) to power your brakes with the brake controller. To complete the wiring you'll need Butt Connectors # DW05745-10 and a 7-Way connector for which I recommend the Junction Box # HS381-9000 to keep everything organized. Don't forget a breakaway kit like part # 20099 as well!
When it comes to the actual brakes themselves you'll need to verify the weight rating of your axle(s), but I'm pretty sure any axles you have will be in the 5.2K - 7K range which means you can use the Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA with the Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-201-9UC3-EZ for a 6-bolt pattern or # 42866UC3-EZ for an 8-bolt pattern. You can verify the weight rating either on the tag at the front of your trailer (near the tongue) or on the axle(s) directly.
