Recommended Plug and Play 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller for 2015 GMC Sierra 1500
Question:
2016 gmc 1500 short bed without a factory tow package. I am looking for a plug and play trailer harness with a 7 pin flat connector. also is this truck wired for a brake controller? if so can you point me to that harness. thank you

GM actually uses the # HM40975 as the OEM trailer connector, so that's what I'd recommend you use. The connector will plug into the socket located above the spare tire. You'll need to free the connector from the frame member and uncoil it so it will reach the rear bumper.
The truck is indeed pre-wired for a brake controller. To complete the installation, you'll need brake controller and the vehicle-specific wiring harness. I'd highly recommend the Tekonsh P3, part # 90195. The P3 is super easy to use and set up, providing controls and a display that are very user-friendly. You'll also need the # 3016 wiring harness. The wiring harness plugs into a socket located in the black box on the firewall behind the emergency brake pedal.
