Will K-Source KS70131-32T Towing Mirrors Work w/ Blind Spot Monitor System on 2019 Toyota Tundra

Question:

Hello: Your tow mirror KS70131-32T: My Toyota dealer indicated the following: #1 Its possible that any 3rd party mirrors couldinch violate my active warranty OR #2 They will not repair anything under warranty that installing these mirrors could cause to not work they mentioned radio, other electronics, etc.. That made me very hesitant to consider non Toyota Towing mirrors. #3 I have also read that using a 3rd party tow mirror without BSM will cause messages to appear on the console and you cant get rid of them. I dont want to void warranty and I dont see how installing these recommended mirrors could do so UNLESS they have caused issues in the past. What have you heard about the above concerns if anything? Thanks

The K-Source mirrors you specified aren't compatible with the Blind Spot Monitoring System, or BSM. But we do have a solution that will provide good quality towing mirrors for your Tundra

Let's address your questions in order.

1) Purchasers of aftermarket vehicle accessories are protected by the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975, which states in part that a automobile dealer can't deny a warranty claim unless they can prove that the part you installed directly caused the problem.

2) Their refusal to do so is protected by that act. It has indeed happened before and many dealers will stop at nothing to deny a claim.

3) I spoke with the Tech Support folks at K-source, and was told that using non-BSM mirrors won't cause any warnings or malfunctions. K-Source doesn't have any record of problems caused by using a non-BSM mirror on a vehicle equipped with that feature.

I believe this might be a situation where your Toyota dealer is using scare tactics to influence you to purchase the much more expensive OEM towing mirrors, but you sound as if you're very concerned about a future warranty claim denial and I completely understand that. The BSM system is fully integrated into the entertainment and other systems so I understand your reluctance.

For a fraction of the cost of the OEM or the # KS70131-32T mirrors, you could go with a snap on towing mirror like
# KS81300 which would snap onto the back of your existing mirrors. This snap on mirror is fully compatible with the blind spot monitoring system, and there are no electronics involved to cause possible future warranty implications. This is the solution I'd personally choose. If you click the provided link, you can see a product demonstration video for the mirrors I recommended.
