Location of Tow Package Wiring 2007 GMC Envoy

Question:

My husband and I have been searching online for 2 days, and have checked and we cant seem to find the wire that is wrapped in white tape, that everyone is referring to, to connect the brake controller to. My husband has had the cover off and searched everywhere, and cant find it..Could it possibly be on the side panel of the dash of the drivers side? Also, we read about under a dishinch on the passengers side dash. ANY and ALL help would be greatly appreciated. Also, thank you in advance for your time and efforts on this manner. We do have the tow package. We just purchased this vehicle to tow our camper and am hoping to get it wired to take a trip. :-

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha, who tells me that the tow package wiring should be located under the dash, above where the drivers left knee would be as shown in the video I have linked to. He had no information regarding any other place under the dash where the wiring would be located.

If your Envoy does NOT have the factory installed 7-way trailer connector at the rear bumper, the wiring might not be present, and the controller would need to be hardwired using our Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7.

Since you state that you have the tow package, the wiring should be there. Look for a large wiring harness toward the left under the dash. The tow package wiring is secured with electrical tape to the larger bundle of wires. Your dead giveaway will be a white tag (see photo) taped to the tow package wiring harness. You might need to carefully remove some of the electrical tape from the larger wiring harness to expose the tow package wiring, and make the tag visible. You can use a utility knife to cut the tape, but be very careful not to nick the wiring.

Although it might be possible for the wiring to be located behind the kick panel on the drivers side or on the passenger side, my contact had never heard of an instance where that was the case.
