Brake Controller Recommendation and Installation 2019 Chevy Colorado
Question:
I need to install a brake controller on my 2019 chevy colorado. Is there a video or instruction manual to let me know which controller will work best for me. I worked as a mechanic for 20 years and have skills to do most mechanical jobs but lack knowledge in some modern computer skills. I am 65 yrs. old.

A brake controller isn't a vehicle specific item, just about any controller will work on just about any vehicle.
There are two types of controllers, a time-delayed and a proportional. A time delayed controller will send the same amount of pre-set voltage to the trailer brakes according to how it's been set. Whether the braking event is a quick tap on the pedal or a panic stop, the controller will send the same amount of voltage to the brakes.
A proportional controller will determine how quickly the tow vehicle is braking, and will send the appropriate amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so the trailer and tow vehicle stop at the same rate for safe, reliable, predictable braking.
The Tekonsha P3 you'd looked at, part # 91095 would work great for you. This controller is simple to use, works great and features a display that will instantly tell you the status of your trailer braking system.
The brake controller would attach to existing wires under the dash as shown in the video I've linked for you. Be sure to follow the color coding shown in the video, as the wires won't match up color for color.
If your truck doesn't already have a 7-way, you'd install one using part # HM11141144.
