Parts Needed to Power the Blue Ox Patriot & Not Drain Battery in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question:

We need to know if our 2014 jeep wrangler 4 door is compatible with the blue ox brake system for towing behind our rv. If we buy the blue ox portable brake system what other accessories do we need to purchase to keep our jeep battery from being drained by the portable brake system. Also what supplemental brake lights do we need?

The great thing about supplemental braking systems is that they're not vehicle specific, so you can really use whatever you'd like that matches your needs. The Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR is a good choice to provide you with proportional braking compared to the amount of brakes being applied in the coach. The Patriot II is fully compatible with your 2014 Jeep Wrangler, but you will be required to install an additional 12v power supply that is tied into the tow bar wiring-which is described more below with the additional parts you'll need.

In addition to supplemental braking, base plates and a tow bar, you will need wiring for the lights, safety cables (if not integrated into your tow bar) and a high low adapter (which you'll need to measure your setup to determine which one you need-don't worry, there is an article attached to this answer where you can find out exactly how).

I've gone ahead and provided a list of the recommended parts you'll need to complete your flat towing setup for your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JKU.

Tow bar wiring (for lights and 12v power to outlet kit): Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267

Quick Battery Disconnect: Roadmaster Quick Battery Disconnect # RM-766

12v Outlet Kit for Blue Ox Patriot: Roadmaster # RM-9332 (required to power supplemental braking system since battery must be disconnected-will draw power from RV)

Safety Cables: Roadmaster 64" Single Hook Straight Safety Cables (if your tow bar does not have them integrated) # RM-645

I've linked some helpful installation videos of these products on similar Jeep JKU as well as a "How-To" when it comes to measuring for a high/low adapter that you might want to have a look at and will help you determine which high/low adapter you need; I've also linked our entire selection of those adapters so you can easily find them on our site.
