How to Make Custom Adapter to Install Redarc Tow Pro Elite on 2020 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
I want to install item the redarc controller on my 2020 toyota 4runner. It came with the factory tow package with a 7 way plug already and I've been told theres a plug for a brake controller under the dash. I've read there's a way to make a custom adapter so I don;t have to cut any wires to install the redarc. Can you tell me which parts I need and what I need to do?

You are correct, there isn't a custom wiring adapter available that would have a plug to connect to the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR on one end and another plug to match the factory brake controller port on your 2020 Toyota 4Runner on the other end. Fortunately, there's a simple way to make one.
The white connector on the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Brake Wiring Adapter # HM47815 is made to fit the factory brake controller plug under your dash, but the black plug won't fit the Tow-Pro Elite controller, so all you need to do is cut that black plug and replace it with the one included with the Redarc controller, as shown in the attached photos. Simply splice the wires color by color. I recommend using heat shrink connectors, # DW05744-5 to create the most durable and secure connections.

In the installation video for the redarc controller he has an additional white ground that he mounts to a body screw under the dash. Is this something I would need to do as well? And if so do you sell the ground wire with the loop or would I just need to go to my local hardware store to get one? And if so what awg should that wire be? And would it be added to the white wires at the butt connector? Thanks in advance, sorry there are so many questions packed in there.
