I believe you are referring to the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185 which has the manufacturer part number of 47185B. The purple auxiliary wire can be used for 12V power, reverse lights or reverse lockout for trailer brakes.

The purple wire is normally connected to the reverse light signal of the Ford F-150 vehicle if your trailer has reverse lights or hydraulic brakes with an actuator that has an electric reverse lockout. You would need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires going to a reverse light bulb. Chock the truck wheels, have someone sit in the vehicle and apply the emergency brake and foot brake, and then put the vehicle in reverse so you can test the wires safely. You want to splice into the wire that shows power while the truck is in reverse.

If you don't need it for reverse functions you can always attach it to the vehicle's battery via a 40 amp circuit breaker and use it for 12V power for another accessory on the trailer along with the 12V black wire circuit. You could also use it for a backup camera on the trailer as well if you'd like.
