Troubleshooting Reese 30160 Fifth Wheel Hitch Chucking with Sidewinder Pin Box

Question:

I do have the custom wedge, but perhaps I am not using correct, do you have a diagram or something depicting the correct wedge installation?

The Reese hitch you have now part # RP30160 should be used with the Sidewinder wedge part # SWW-01 in order to have the best ride quality when towing a trailer with a Sidewinder. If you are using a universal wedge or a wedge for a different hitch this is the solution you'll really want. The # RP30160 has a really great jaw design that should not allow chucking so I'd suspect the wedge is the issue. That said, the head of the M5 cannot be swapped to it.

If you wanted to go to the Reese M5 hitch you'd need to go with the part # RP30918 instead for an entirely new hitch and you'll want to use the wedge kit # RP44FR with M5 head for a custom fit.

I attached a picture that hopefully helps you see how it should install.
