How to Determine Correct Replacement Leaf Springs for 7,000 lb Axle

Question:

I have a 2017 keystone Fuzion 371 5th wheel with duel Dexter 7000# axles that have the mor/ryde cre3000 equalizers. I broke one of my leaf springs. I’m thinking I should change all 4... I’m thinking I should also upgrade to heavier shackles with wet bolts. Can you tell me exactly what parts I will need? What about new u bolts?

I can give you some guidance on how to determine the correct replacement leaf springs, and you are right that replacing all four of them at the same time is a good idea. What you'll need to do for double-eye springs (which is what I assume is on your 2017 Keystone Fuzion) is measure from the center of one eye to the center of the other eye and get a match as close as you can. Just take into account that the springs may have elongated a bit over time.

For example, the only double eye spring we carry which is rated for 7,000 lb axles is the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles # e64SR, which measures 24-7/8" from center eye to center eye. If your current spring is close, these would be a great fit for you. I do recommend getting new U-bolts as well, the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-9.

For shackle straps a tandem axle set up will typically use 2-5/8" shackle straps, and you can use Replacement Shackle Strap - 2-5/8" Long # 115052 for this. Wet bolts are a good idea as well, and you'll want Wet Equalizer Bolt with Locknut and Grease Zerk for Double-Eye Springs # 126B2 for this.

I have added links to some video reviews for you to check out, as well as a link to a help article on double-eye trailer suspension which I recommend checking out.
