Towing Capacity of 2017 Ram 2500 Short Bed Diesel

Question:

I’m showing the unloaded weight to be 12,905 and a GVWR of 14,995. Would I still be in the safe range?

Looks like the 2020 Jayco Eagle 355MBQS you are interested in has the max weight possible of 12,300 lbs which your 2017 Ram 2500 Crew Cab Big Horn 4x4 with Cummins diesel could easily tow as it's rated for towing a trailer up to 17,980 lbs.

Since you have a short bed (I can tell from your picture) you'd need a slider hitch like the B and W Companion slider part # BWRVK3670 that you referenced and you'd be set! Most consider this to be the best hitch on the market so you'll be really happy with how well it's made, how quiet it is, and how easy it is to use.

Air bags wouldn't be necessary since you'd be so far below the towing capacity of your truck too!

You'd still be totally safe as you'd have a couple thousand pounds of extra capacity! At this point though an air bag system would be a pretty good idea though. For that the Firestone kit part # F2580 is your best option confirmed as a fit. The ply rating of the Firestone bags is much better than the competition which means they are better made and will be more reliable overall. Also this kit is compatible with in-bed hitches too. I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out as well. For a compressor kit then the heavy duty part # F2097 will make inflating the bags and maintaining them very easy. The compressor will inflate faster than standard compressors and the gauge inside the vehicle will allow you to monitor and inflate them from inside the vehicle as well.
