Ground Clearance for Carrying Bikes w/ a Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible

Question:

I plan to install this hitch on a 2004 Sebring convertible, to be used with a bike rack to carry two bikes. Have you found there is enough ground clearance once the bikes are installed along with the weight of the hitch, rack and bikes on the rear of the car? Any specific difficulties installing the hitch?

First, because the Curt trailer hitch # C1190 is a Class I trailer hitch, make sure that the bike rack you use is compatible with a Class I trailer hitch. If you need a compatible bike rack, I recommend the Swagman Titan, # S63400. It carries 2 bikes, fits a Class I, and comes with an integrated cable lock. You will also need a stabilizer strap like # 18050 when carrying bikes or cargo with the Curt hitch. I have included a link to a video review for you.

This rack also has a rise in the shank for greater ground clearance. I have not heard of any issues regarding ground clearance and carrying bikes with this hitch and a Sebring convertible. Installation of the hitch should not be too difficult, and I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view so you know what it takes to install the hitch ahead of time. It does require some drilling and estimates 40 minutes for the average mechanic.

If you will be carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bikes, I recommend using a bike adapter bar like # 64005, for greater ground clearance. The use of the adpater will allow you to carry the bikes more level so that one wheel is not closer to the ground thus increasing ground clearance. I have included a video showing how it works.
