How Many Snow Tire Chains Should be Used on 2002 Ford Explorer With 235/70-16 Tires

Question:

When it says included is 2 chains does that mean those 2 are needed for 1 tire or 1 of the 2 for 1 tire and the other for another so that when buying quantity of 12 chains would cover 2 tires of the vehicle?? Hope that makes sense this is all new to me... and also would these chains PWH3210SC work on an 02 Ford explorer xlt 4wd w nitto a/t 235/70R16 tires I have on my explorer? Also would those tires be considered a good tire for snow and ice for living in the mountains and not always on paved roads more so dirt rock roads with some paved driving but only when on main highway?

Ok, so in regards to snow tire chains for any vehicle, they only require one chain per tire. So one pair of chains - a quantity of two chains - is all that is needed for putting chains on your 2002 Ford Explorer with 235/70-16 tires.

I looked up the owner's manual for your 2002 Explorer and it stated that you can use chains, but on the rear wheels only, and they must be Class S rated. I strongly recommend using chains if you are going to be in slick areas with snow and ice because your tires look like they are all-terrain tires, which are fine but not designed specifically for snow (which some tires are).

The chains you initially mentioned won't fit on your Explorer's 235/70-16 tires, but I do have a great option for you, the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link # TC2319. These are a quantity of two, Class S rated chains that fit your Explorer's 235/70-16 tires, and they are the best option because they are a diamond pattern, which means they give your tires full coverage compared to the lesser ladder pattern. I have added a link to a video review of these tire chains for you to take a look at.
