Question:

Wondering how wide the area is. Side to side.

Expert Reply:

Each sensor on the Hopkins Backup Sensor System # HM60100VA can detect objects approximately 5-1/2 feet away with about a 45 degree wide angle. The sensors are designed to alert you when an object is directly behind your vehicle, so if it's off to one side, they may not work as well. While you can adjust the tilt of the sensors to compensate for the angle of your license plate, there isn't a way to adjust the width of the alert zone.

I've attached a helpful video that shows how the system works with a vehicle directly behind it.
