Can Longer Crossbars Be Used When Adding 2nd Tier # MPG474 to MicroSport Trailer
Question:
Hi, I am interested in purchasing a second tier system for my microsport trailer, but had a few questions. The bars for the second tier are 50, but I would like to put the 78inch bars on, which is what the trailer has now on the base. Is there a reason that 50inch is the standard? Would 78inch put too much stress on the mounting points? If it is possible to put 78inch bars on, could I just pay extra for them to be added to the kit so I dont need to make 2 separate purchases? So you know, I would be using the second tier for dual cargo carriers, both are less than 30 pounds, and both would carry less than 30 pounds each total 120, but 60 per side, less than a typical kayak. Thanks for your help

I reached out to my contact at Malone and he did say that the 50" load bars that are included with the 2nd Tier Kit # MPG474 for your MicroSport Trailer are the longest they can safely recommend. He said that longer top crossbars will lead to instability on the trailer and actually wouldn't be DOT compliant.
Using the 50" bars included with the kit is the only option for adding that 2nd tier. I have attached the written installation manual that you can check out as well.
