You can go down to a 16 inch tire and wheel as long as the one you choose is rated to handle the load of your boat/trailer and your wheel bolt pattern matches that of your existing hub.

If your current set up uses a bolt pattern of 8 on 6-1/2, the Westlake ST235/85R16 # LHAXSO513B is an excellent option. This tire and wheel combination has a capacity of 3,960 lbs (limited by the wheel), a section width of 9.3 inches and an overall diameter of 31.7 inches. 8.75R16.5 tires have a diameter of 29.5 inches and a section width of 8.8 inches.

So, as long as your boat and trailer are under 7,920 lbs, and you have the extra 1/2 inch of clearance between the outside of your frame and the inside of the tire, this is a suitable replacement. The aluminum wheel is going to offer the best corrosion resistance typically needed in a marine application, like yours.

I've attached a link to our Tires and Wheels Help Articles as well as one with our complete selection of ST235/85R16 tire and wheel combos.

If you can confirm your bolt pattern along with the load range of your existing 8.75R16 LT tires and can tell me if you're looking for a steel or aluminum wheel, I can make a more personalized recommendation for you.
