Yakima Round Bar Crossbar Length for 2005 Toyota Prius

Question:

Hi! I have a 2005 Toyota Prius and have found so much conflicting information about which clips and pads to use. I followed Yakima’s instructions but it will not fit on my roof. 40 in is the recommended size between the rear towers and there is no way that fit on my vehicle. Do the pads make that much of a difference? I have all a pads at the moment and it will not seem to fit. Also should I be using q5 or q124 in the front? Thanks so much.

The Q towers have been discontinued but I was able to find out from Yakima that for your 2005 Toyota Prius the front clip is the Q5 and the rear clip is the Q124. You are correct about the measurements for distance in between as well, with the rear towers needing to be 40" apart and the front towers needing to be 42-1/2" apart.

I'm also curious as to what size crossbars you are using, because the correct length is the 58" Round CrossBars # Y00409. If you have a shorter length that might be the cause of some of your troubles if the bars are "pulling" on the towers because the bars are too short, making it difficult to center the towers.

I have added a link to a video showing your roof rack being installed on a 2007 Prius - which is the same generation as your Prius - which I recommend watching.
