Easy to Install Brake Controller in 2017 Ford T-250 Transit

Question:

I have a 2017 Ford T-250 Transit van. It has a receiver hitch and 4 way and 7 way trailer connectors. It does not have a brake controller. As far as I can tell from researching the VIN, it does not appear to have the trailer tow package. There are 7 wires going to into the backside of the 7 way connector. I traced that wiring harness the length of the vehicle so it appears that the wiring may be in place. Ive looked around the fuse block at the firewall, and also under the cup holder in the center console. I cannot locate any connector available for a factory controller. I like the looks of the P3 proportional controller that you offer. Im just not sure what additional components I need. Do I need the ETBC7? Do I need to run a wire the length of the vehicle or is that already in place that I can tap into? Is the lack of a brake controller proof that I do not have the trailer tow package even though I have the factory installed 7 way connector? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I can help you wire in the P3 brake controller part # 90195 to your 2017 Ford Transit but to our knowledge your vehicle does not have any brake controller install wiring so you'd have to run a few wires to complete the install...or you could use the Curt Mobile Echo part # C51180 which gives you the same great brake controller performance as the P3 but has the advantage of having a super easy install. Basically you'd just plug this straight into your 7-way, sync it to your smart phone, and the install is complete.

But instead to install the P3 you'd need the wiring kit part # 5506.

This will provide the power source and ground for the wiring for the brake controller. You will need to test the wires from the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find a circuit that has voltage when the brakes are applied and none when not applied. This will be the circuit you will run the red wire to.

Finally you will need to run a length of 10 gauge wire (part # 10-1-1) from the brake output circuit of the controller to the brake output circuit of the 7-way (blue wire). The # 10-1-1 is sold by the foot so you will need to order a quantity of the amount of feet you will need.

I attached an FAQ on installing brake controllers for you to check out.
