Trailer Hitch and Wiring For 2018 Toyota Tacoma To Tow Boat Trailer

Question:

I am looking to purchase a trailer hitch kit for my tacoma because it does not have one. Can you please let me know what part# i may need to begin to tow my boat since I cannot put a receiver on it currently based on the frame. Toyota said it must be after market. Thank you.

I recommend Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13264 for the 2018 Toyota Tacoma because the powder coat is a little better compared to the other options with the e-coat base. The rust preventive e-coat is helpful if the hitch is exposed to salt water when you tow the boat trailer. It also is a concealed cross tube design so it will look nice on the Toyota Tacoma. The only portion that is visible of the hitch once installed is the receiver tube. I am not sure what you mean by cannot put a receiver on it because of the frame but this hitch is a custom fit design for the Tacoma. The installation does not require drilling, I have attached an installation video for your reference.

To power the lights on the trailer, I recommend Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56349 because it is a bit easier to install compared to the other options.

Since you are planning on towing, I recommend etrailer.com ball mount kit part # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If you are not sure how much rise or drop you will need in a ball mount to tow level, I recommend to take a look at the help article I have attached that will help you determine that.
