Recommendation for Small Freewheeling Hand Winch to Raise and Lower Anchor

Question:

Good Morning, Here is a question I don’t think you had answered. I am looking for a recommendation on the type of hand winch to use in the following application. I have a 12 foot boat to which I want to install this winch on the left side facing forward on the gunwale the top edge of the boat near my seat in the back. The handle would have to be inside the boat for clarification. I would run the nylon rope via through pullies to the front anchor where I can freewheel the anchor to the bottom. Cranking it up I would not have to move to the front to hoist the anchor by hand. This would prevent potential capsizing during movement and also make it much easier on my back. Specifications: The anchor won’t be more than 20 lbs I am looking for a compact size about 4-5 inches wide. The capacity would be minimal about 400 – 600 lbs. Free wheeling capability Thanks in advance for your help in this matter. Regards

We definitely have a really good winch for your specific application with the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14125. This compact winch features a 600 pound capacity, can be used with wire rope or polyester strap, measures just over 5 inches wide (5-11/64 inches to be exact), and has free-wheeling capability (I did confirm this with Dutton-Lainson). I have attached a detailed dimensional drawing that you can also take a look at to make sure it meets your requirements.

I have attached a short video review on this winch that you can check out as well.
