Should Utility Trailer go Down from 205/75-14 Tire Size to 175/80-13 To Share Spare w Boat Trailer
Question:
hello, I have a boat trailer with ST175/80D13 Load D pretty new tires and a utility trailer with ST205/75R14 Load C tires that needs replacing. I also need to get a spare tire. I was thinking about changing the Utility trailer tires to the same size and load as the boat tires so I will only have one spare for both trailers. What are the disadvantages of going from 14inch Load C tire to 13inch Load D tire? Thank you

When you switch to a smaller tire size you end up losing quite a bit of weight capacity and you'll also end up lowering the trailer's height. This could cause the trailer to drag if the clearance was currently close. I'd recommend sticking to the current tire sizes each trailer has since that's what the trailer was designed for and seemingly the size is working well for the trailer currently.
For just a tire in the size of 205/75-14 we have the Westlake part # 274-000012 which is priced great, has a higher speed rating, and comes with a warranty that includes tire replacement.
Then for a spare to use on the boat trailer we have the part # AM31994 which will work great and is priced well too. I know this means having to buy an extra wheel and tire but it will give you a safer and better towing experience with the utility trailer so I feel it's worth it.
