How To Use a Surge Protector When Hooking Up a 30 Amp Camper To a 50 Amp Service

Question:

I have one these noted above. Is this safe? What reduces the amperage flow to the 30 amp level?

It sounds like you are wanting to use a surge protector when hooking up your 30 amp trailer to a 50 amp service. If that is the case then this can be done but you would want to use a 30 amp surge protector. I recommend using the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector part # CAM55301 with the Power Grip RV Power Cord Adapter part # CAM55175.

The camper pulls power from the shore outlet, not the other way around. The camper would never pull more than 30 amps unless there was an issue in which case the surge protector would switch on. The surge protector is more of a cutoff switch, not an amperage reducer so to speak.
